While there are lovers and haters of sound ports, I personally feel rather neutral. They change the voice and character of a guitar but not in a bad or good way.... just different.

Maple burl

Rosettes are fun to make and add alot of character to an instrument. When I build an Oceana Guitar or Oceana Ukulele I spend a lot of time designing and making the rosette.

Pyramid bridge

The Pyramid is a classic and effective bridge for the parlor guitar... when making a bridge for my Oceana instruments my goal is to balance mass and surface with the instrument to maximize it's voice and tone!

retro tuners

Tuners are an important part of an instrument... they add a look and feel to the guitar and their function is important: Tuning and holding the tune! Oceana Ukuleles focuses on that when picking out tuners for an instrument.

Gloss finish!

Finishes are so important! They protect and beautify the ukulele or guitar. When applying Finish to an Oceana Ukulele or Guitar I take the extra effort to keep it thin enough to maximize the sound while still protecting! I have found the UV cured finishing products allow me to do just that... UV products have an unfair bad reputation because some of the companies that use these finishes put it on very thick and as such ruin the sound! Oceana Ukuleles and guitars do not suffer at all in this way!

As a ukulele maker I look at guitars different than most guitar builders. I approach them with a focus not on size but voice and volume! Obviously there are many large guitars that are tremendously wonderful, but that does not indicate that all guitars need to be large! I find the well built parlor guitar can compete in volume and tone with most if not all guitars.
